Al Drye, Trustee of the GTT and chair of the Equip committee, explains why Equip is so important.
A number of years ago some youth group leaders from St John's Anglican Church, Latimer Square went to a Youth Leaders conference in Katoomba, NSW. They were blown away by what they learnt and experienced and so each year they went back, taking more and more of their team with them. They quickly realised that something similar needed to be run locally, and so in 2004 the Youth Leadership Conference New Zealand was launched. Seven years later, hundreds of people have completed the three year programme and are serving in churches all over New Zealand, teaching the Bible in youth groups and bible studies, doing evangelism with their friends and family, and correctly handling the work of truth (2 Tim 2:15).
Today, Equip is run by the Gospel Training Trust (GTT).
